In the Capital One Cup Chelsea get revenge against Manchester United

| Eden Hazard celebrates his penalty against against Manchester United |
Last night in the Capital One Cup was the same football fixture as 3 days earlier in the Premier League when Chelsea hosted Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. That game included a lot of controversy and incorrect decisions which led to Chelsea going down to 9 men and Manchester United getting a winning goal through Hernandez from an offside position. Following the game, Chelsea manager, Roberto di Matteo said that “the officials ruined it (the game)” and that he was looking for justice in their next game in the Capital One Cup.
Chelsea made 6 changes to the team that started 3 days earlier due to the suspended Ivanovic and Torres and to rest certain players for the Premier League. Man United made 10 changes keeping only Rafael from the previous meeting between the top 2 Premier League clubs. Chelsea sorely missed their usual right back Ivanovic and it showed in the 22nd minute when Čech passed his goal kick to Ivanovic’s replacement, Romeu who then lost possession of the ball to Giggs, which led to Man United going 1-0 up through the Welshman. 10 minutes later the new Chelsea striker, Moses forced Cleverly to make a challenge in the box which resulted in a penalty for Chelsea. David Luiz lingered over the ball and at the sound of the whistle he smashed it into the bottom left corner of the net levelling the game.
Manchester United took the lead again at the perfect time. On the stroke of the break, Hernandez used his weak foot to stroke to ball past Petr Čech. Chelsea’s defenders were extremely attacking in this game with their centre back, Cahill grabbing a goal of his own through a header which just crossed the line and was correctly given as a goal. On the hour mark, Man United showed their skill as they linked up some silky passes between Hernandez, Anderson and finally Nani who cheekily chipped the goalkeeper to gain the lead for United once more.
Whilst Manchester United were making a habit of taking the lead, Chelsea had a habit of pulling the game back level as another penalty went in Chelsea’s favour in the final minute of the match. Substitute Eden Hazard waited for the keeper to dive one way before calmly rolling the ball down the middle of the goal and taking the match into extra-time. The first team to break through in extra-time was Chelsea as Sturridge took advantage of a Man United defensive mistake to give Chelsea the lead for the first time in the game. Chelsea then extended their lead through a nice skilled move that included Hazard and Ramires both doing a few fake shots before slotting the ball home and putting the game beyond doubt. A third penalty was given which Giggs scored but it was no more than a consolation goal for Manchester United. Chelsea got their revenge by defeating Manchester United 5-4 last night and they are set to meet Leeds United in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup.
